Not an evergreen

Not an evergreen

Sprouted off a seed not by choice

Carried by the wind further from I can see

As the winter spreads I stand

No leaves to cover

Just a chill to bear

Droplets freeze cover an unborn bloom

Branches bare in the headroom

Lone prayer all that is known

Not an evergreen

Not so distant is what I remember

Swaying leaves, sprouts to rescind

Shade for the wary

Delight for the seeking

Enhanced by melodies chirped off me

A many caravans stopped since

So much so of adulation

That I now remember was not long ago

Not an evergreen

A faith is all there to me

As promise stands my guide

Weather the midst of a wintery night

Soon some clocks will be a light

Silence till then strands beyond

A whisper within from a distance seems

Not an evergreen, constant is not for me

Until the next spring unless the frost makes the most of me.
